At this point along the Covid-19 journey, you’ve either had Covid-19 once or multiple times, or have known someone who has had it. We are all familiar with the signs and symptoms: Headache, sore throat, fatigue, loss of smell and taste, are the most reported; with digestive system complaints such as diarrhea and indigestion reported as well. An estimated 10 % of people experience what’s known as long haul covid, or long covid, where they continue to experience a different set of symptoms for a few months to present (as of this article being written, there are patients who have reported long haul covid symptoms over 6 months).

Many of these symptoms alone can be difficult to treat, when occurring in combination treatment becomes even more problematic. This is where Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture comes in.

How Chinese Medicine works Chinese medicine treats the pattern of the disease and the individual the disease is affecting. There isn’t a “one size fits all” type of approach, because each person will present slightly differently. One person might have a headache and cough, the other will be experiencing body aches and diarrhea. This is why Chinese herbal medicine and Acupuncture work so well! It’s tailored to the individual, not the masses. It’s also why Chinese Herbal medicine is so difficult to study; there aren’t many things western science can nail down and research. Some research has been done with other herbs; the attributes and uses of Ginger (sheng jiang) have been well studied, along with other herbs such as Astragalus (Huang qi).

At Palm Coast Acupuncture & Wellness, we are always at the cutting edge of new available treatments. In conjunction with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, we also use red light therapy (aka PBM), infrared heat therapy, ATP Bioresonance therapy and acupoint injection therapy. This gives us the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Treatment for Long Covid Long Covid is exactly as it sounds - an experiencing of symptoms long after covid recovery. Due to the nature of symptoms, expect a recovery time of about 1-3 months (depending on the severity of symptoms. More severe? Longer time). At our office, you will have a treatment plan that’s tailored for you and your individual health needs. Treatment is usually a few times a week for 3 weeks, then a re-evaluation is done to assess progress. At that point, we would adjust accordingly. Included in the treatment plan would be custom Chinese herbal medicine, red light therapy, infrared heat therapy, and PEMF mats. We have a saying that health care is like a cake; you need all the ingredients to make a good one.
