Deidra Veella Griffin is charged with first-degree murder and two gun violations in the death of 51-year-old Lonnie Bernard Paye Jr. of Randallstown.
Deidra Veella Griffin, 41, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Lonnie Paye Jr. The verdict came Friday around 5 p.m., said Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger.
The Michigan woman drove more than 500 miles to Randallstown last June to kill Paye, her ex-boyfriend, authorities said.
Paye, a contractor, was found shot to death in his garage on July 1, although detectives said they believe he was killed June 19. Prosecutor Garret Glennon told the jury Paye and Griffin broke up before the birth of their son and were in a custody battle.
"I feel the jury paid great attention to a detailed case," Glennon said. "The amount of premeditation was overwhelming, and the thought that she put into this was very significant."
The prosecution presented security camera footage of a woman of Griffin's build entering Paye's home in the 4300 block of Travancore Court on June 19.
Sentencing in the case is currently scheduled for September, defense attorney Tyler Mann said.
Griffin faces the possibility of life in prison.
