The true power of Hancock's Mero Mero no Mi could actually be legendary.

One Piece 1059 dropped recently and made some major revelations with regards to Boa Hancock and the Emperor of the Sea, Blackbeard. Fans got to see what happened on Amazon Lily following the dissolution of the Warlord system. As seen in One Piece 956, the Navy had surrounded the Island of Women and the Kuja were preparing for battle. In this chapter, fans saw the Kuja engaging the Navy and the latter making use of their new weapons, called the Seraphim, in combat. More importantly, Blackbeard suddenly made his appearance on the island in search of Hancock's Devil Fruit.

This is rather strange as Blackbeard would have no reason to hunt Hancock's fruit unless the fruit is extremely special. It has already been made known that he is hunting for extremely rare fruits that make him and his crew incredibly powerful. So far, the Mero Mero no Mi has not displayed any special properties, even though it is quite powerful. However, there may be more to this Devil Fruit than meets the eye and it's possible that it holds one of the greatest powers in the world of One Piece.

To discuss why this fruit is so special, fans need to take a look at the powers that it possesses currently. The Mero Mero no Mi made its debut during the Amazon Lily arc when Boa Hancock was met by Vice Admiral Momonga and his crew. Within a matter of seconds, she nearly killed every single one of his crew with her powers, turning them into stone and forcing Momonga to incapacitate himself. Shortly after, the powers of the fruit were explained to the fans. Anyone attracted to Hancock, regardless of their sex, can get petrified by her powers by merely being touched by a beam known as Mero Mero Mellow. Only Hancock can revert them to their normal state and even if she dies, the condition of those who are petrified remains the same.

At the same time, it is extremely interesting to know that Hancock also has other abilities up her sleeve that make her even more dangerous. While Mero Mero Mellow allows her to turn those who are attracted to her into stone, other techniques, such as Perfume Femur, Slave Arrow, and Pistol Kiss, allow her to turn even those who aren't attracted to her into stone. This was seen when Hancock could turn inanimate objects and even the Pacifistas to stone with her ability.

As such, it is quite clear to see that the Mero Mero no Mi is a very special Devil Fruit and certainly an overpowered one. Blackbeard went on to say in One Piece 1059 that she could even turn him into stone despite him being one of the Yonko, which is why he had to sneakily grab her before she could defeat him. While this already makes this Devil Fruit quite overpowered, the true nature of this ability could be something even more dangerous.

Hancock's acquisition of the Mero Mero no Mi is linked to her tragic past. As fans know already, Hancock was kidnapped and sold into slavery when she was a child, along with her two sisters. She ended up as a slave of the Celestial Dragons who used her and her sisters for their entertainment. At some point, all three were force-fed devil fruits just for the sake of entertainment. The choices for the Devil Fruits that they were force-fed are rather interesting, however. Boa Sandersonia was given the Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Anaconda, while Boa Marigold was given the Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: King Cobra. Both the Devil Fruits are related to snakes.

Interestingly, Hancock was given the Mero Mero no Mi, which is very different from the other two, no matter how one looks at it. While the other two are Zoan, Hancock's fruit is a Paramecia. Being Celestial Dragons, it makes sense for them to know exactly which fruits they procure and give to others. Yet, they chose a different fruit just for Hancock, which is rather strange and opens up the door for an intriguing possibility. Perhaps, Hancock's Devil Fruit is not the Mero Mero no Mi, as fans know it.

The Mero Mero no Mi was introduced to the fans as a Paramecia type of Devil Fruit and its powers certainly do look that way. However, it is strange for the Celestial Dragons to give two Zoan powers to the Gorgon Sisters and let one be a Paramecia which is completely different from the other two. At the same time, the special nature of this Devil Fruit makes it highly coveted.

This was seen when Blackbeard was in an attempt to hunt the Devil Fruit himself. However, why would Blackbeard want a devil fruit that he can't even utilize at its best due to his appearance? It is also interesting to note that Blackbeard himself claimed that he had been patiently waiting to hunt this power down for years now, meaning there is certainly something special about this fruit. Connecting all the dots only points to one conclusion that the Mero Mero no Mi is not the real name of this Devil Fruit.

Instead, the name of the fruit could be something like the Hito Hito mo Mo, Model: Medusa. This would make the fruit incredibly special, just like Luffy's Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. It would also mean that Hancock possesses a Zoan type of Devil Fruit and not a Paramecia. This fits with the Devil Fruits of her sisters which are both Zoan types. At the same time, it also explains why Blackbeard would want her ability as it would be one of the most special ones in the series. It would also be a Zoan one, which is the only class that he is missing currently as he already has the strongest Logia and the strongest Paramecia.

The Mero Mero no Mi being a Zoan checks all boxes. The true power of this fruit, thus, would lie in its awakening. Once the fruit awakens, the true name and the abilities of this fruit would be made known to the fans. While it isn't necessary for Medusa to be the Goddess whose name this fruit bears, it is likely to be a snake god or Goddess in the world of One Piece.
